This year’s exhibit will be held at the exciting location at Emory Conference Center Hotel on Clifton Road. This is an outstanding meeting/exhibit space facility with ample parking an easy access for both the Emory Medical School and CDC Research community. Joining TSA will be several local groups and individual facilities promoting this year’s exhibit to the local biomedical research community along the growing Clifton Corridor. Emory School of Medicine ranks 19th among U.S. schools of medicine in external research funding. Ranked 18th nationally in NIH dollars received\, Emory received $456 million in sponsored research funding awards. The school is best known for its research and treatment in infectious disease\, neurosciences\, heart disease\, cancer\, transplantation\, orthopaedics\, pediatrics\, renal disease\, opthamology\, and geriatrics. Research facilities include Whitehead Biomedical Research Building\, Rollins Research Center\, Woodruff Memorial Research Building\, Health Sciences Research Building\, Winship Cancer Institute\, Yerkes Primate Center and Vaccine Research Center. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention works to protect America from health\, safety and security threats\, both foreign and in the U.S. To accomplish its mission\, CDC conducts critical science and research. Whether diseases start at home or abroad\, are chronic or acute\, curable or preventative\, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same. Opening its doors in the summer of 1946\, its annual budget was $10.0 million and only 400 employees. Today\, CDC’s annual budget is in excess of $7.0 billion and employees over 12\,000 researchers\, scientists and physicians. SUMMARY:Trade Show: NIH Research Festival Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Begun as a one-room laboratory of Hygiene in 1887\, the National Institutes of Health today is one of the world’s foremost biomedical research centers\, and the Federal focal point for biomedical research in the U.S. \nThe NIH mission is to expand fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and to improve and develop new strategies for the diagnosis\, treatment\, and prevention of disease and communicate the results of research with the goal of improving health. NIH works toward that mission \nby: conducting research in its own laboratories; supporting the research of non-Federalscientistsinuniversities\, medical schools\, hospitals\, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad; helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of biomedical information. \nThe NIH is one of eight health \n\n\nagencies of the Public Health Service which\, in turn\, is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Comprised of 28 separate Institutes and Centers\, NIH has 85 buildings on more than 300 acres in Bethesda\, MD. From a total of about $300 in 1887\, the NIH budget has grown to exceed $32 billion in 2018. \nSimply described\, the goal of NIH research is to acquire new knowledge to help prevent\, detect\, diagnose\, and treat disease and disability\, from the rarest genetic disorder to the common cold. \nScientific progress depends mainly on the scientist. About 50\,000 principal investigators – working in every state and in several foreign countries\, from every specialityinmedicine\, everybiomedical discipline\, and at every major university and medical school – receive NIH extramural funding to explore unknown areas of biomedical science. \nThe National Institutes of Health serves the American public through the support and conduct of medical research. We have reached the dawn of a new century in which the average life expectancy in the United States has increased by nearly 30 years – an accomplishment realized in part\, by research-based improvements in health. Continued improvements in the practice of medicine and health \n\n\n\n\nare possible\, if we are prepared to take advantage of the achievements in fundamental science and informatics\, including advanced computing imaging. \nThe FY 2019 program level for the NIH is $34.8 billion. As a result of this continued high level funding of its budget\, the Institutes and Centers (ICs) at the NIH have many new research initiatives underway\, all of which will be continuedinFY2019andbeyond.This continued support of medical research will pay real dividends in the years to come – dividends in the form of new scientific knowledge\, new treatments\, new diagnostic tools\, new cures\, and new ways to prevent disease before it strikes. \nMore Info
