There are specific requirements for the storage of the two FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccines. Proper storage and protection of these products is critical.

The CDC has published guidance for the storage of COVID-19 vaccines as follows:

• Moderna mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine*
  • Frozen: Store between -25°C and -15°C for up to 6 months
  • Refrigerated: Store between 2°C and 8°C for up to 30 days
• Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine**
  • Frozen: Store between -80°C and -60°C for up to 6 months
  • Refrigerated: Store between 2°C and 8°C for up to 120 hours (5 days)
